Superior Transportation, Inc. was established in May 1998 by Patrick Barber of Mt. Pleasant, SC.  While working for Bulldog Highway Express, Pat saw a demand for over-dimensional trucking and founded Superior Transportation with the purpose of providing transportation services in a specialized market.  The company began with one truck, which he personally owned and operated.  By year’s end, Superior Transportation had expanded to a fleet of five trucks.

Today, Superior Transportation, Inc. is a full service, Customs Bonded, heavy haul trucking company specializing in handling over-dimensional, over-weight and out-of-gauge cargo, and is considered the “preferred carrier” for specialized, over-dimensional hauling in the southeast region of the country. We are able to handle complex movements of large freight by combining truck, rail and barge modes of transportation.  Our skilled team can conduct route surveys, load, lash and secure heavy over-dimensional cargoes, as well as handle your packing, crating and warehousing needs.  Superior has successfully completed thousands of specialized deliveries for the heavy construction, mining, manufacturing, public works, highway development, and power generation industries.  Some of our biggest projects have included the Holcim project, BMW, Knoxville Newsprint, General Electric, Eastman Chemical, the construction of the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. / Cooper River Bridge, demolition of the Pearman and Grace bridges, and bridge girders for I-26.

Currently, we have a fleet of 29 company-owned and employee-operated trucks and we serve all Eastern and Gulf Coast ports.

In 2007, we had the honor of being named by the Charleston Regional Business Journal as number 13 of the 20 fastest growing companies in the region.  "In order to qualify for the Roaring 20, companies had to be nominated and were then ranked according to growth and revenue.  Companies must be headquartered in Berkeley, Charleston or Dorchester county, be a for-profit entity and have gross revenues of more than $500,000 in each of the fiscal years 2003, 2004 and 2005." 

In 2006, we were proud to be honored by International Cranes and Specialized Transport’s “Transport 50” as 22nd of 38 of the world’s largest heavy and specialized transport companies.  “The T50 ranks companies according to the total maximum transport capacity of equipment in their fleet in metric tons.” 

We also offer Superior Fleet Services, LLC, which is our team of expert, on-site mechanics, who service our fleet as well as are contracted by other companies to work on fabrication, trucks, trailers, and tractors.  While we specialize in preventative maintenance programs, brake jobs, and electrical problems, we are capable of solving almost any mechanical need.
